Hello
Hello! I'm Emeka Dibia, also known as Mecca Notes. I'm a vocalist, music educator, and performer from New Orleans with a passion for bringing the rich culture of my city into the classroom. With a background in gospel and jazz, and experience as the lead singer of the Brassaholics, I strive to bridge traditional and contemporary styles in music. My journey includes everything from local television writing to performing on national stages, including NBC’s *The Voice* and the New Orleans Superdome. As I pursue my studies in music tech, I'm dedicated to using digital tools to inspire and connect with the next generation of musicians.
My Story
Emeka Dibia, also known as Mecca Notes, is a vocalist, educator, and cultural ambassador rooted in the rich musical heritage of New Orleans. Growing up in a city known for its rhythm and soul, Mecca found his first musical home in the church. As a child, he sang in the choir at St. Monica Catholic Church, a renowned choir that was the first Catholic choir to perform at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. This early foundation immersed him in the powerful traditions of gospel and soul, helping him develop his voice and learn to connect deeply with audiences. The church not only taught him discipline and vocal technique but also instilled in him a strong sense of community, which continues to influence his music and teaching.
Today, Mecca is the lead singer of the Brassaholics, a high-energy ensemble that fuses jazz, funk, and hip-hop, bringing New Orleans’ iconic sounds to national stages. From local clubs to NBA halftime shows, including his recent performance at New Orleans' Smoothie King Center, Mecca showcases the resilience and spirit of his city with every note. His performances embody the essence of New Orleans—a blend of joy, resistance, and celebration. Mecca's unique style is influenced by the city's storied musical history, gospel roots, and the powerful brass sounds that define New Orleans' street music. His journey also includes a national appearance on NBC's *The Voice*, where he represented his community and musical background on a broader platform.
As a dedicated music educator, Mecca brings the same passion to the classroom, bridging New Orleans traditions with modern music technology. He teaches gospel and jazz with the same vigor that shaped him, while also using digital tools to expand his students' musical landscapes. Currently pursuing studies in music technology, he is committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where students can explore their cultural roots and personal expression. Whether through performance or teaching, Mecca’s mission is to inspire the next generation of musicians to embrace their heritage and find their own voices in music.
